Our very own Chris Connolly Races the Boston Marathon to Raise Money for Cancer Research!Posted by in Events | News
Chris Connolly, owner of Connolly Automotive Group, experienced the loss of his Mother, Kathy Connolly in December of 2008 to breast cancer. This spring he spent 5 months training to make a difference in the lives of others who are battling this disease.
On April 19th, he participated in the Boston Marathon,(http://www.bostonmarathon.org/) the world’s oldest annual marathon, completing 26.2 miles along the historic course through Natick, Wellesley, and Framingham. It is an extremely prestigious road racing event in itself, but even more impressive is Chris’s tremendous personal involvement in the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge,(http://www.dana-farber.org/how/danafarber/) which raises money for the institute’s cancer research. One hundred percent of the funds raised by the DFMC participants goes towards the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research to provide better outcomes, higher cure rates, and enhanced quality of life for cancer patients. Chris’s commitment to volunteering raised $12,833 for this lifesaving mission!!! He did it in memory of his Mother, and had an intensely unforgettable experience while supporting this superb cause.
This was Chris’s first marathon, and he completed the course in 4:51:26. He says “This was about a half hour slower than I was shooting for, but it was a very rewarding day in all!” We are so proud of Chris and his achievement!
