Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The initial pilot program was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide program.

Herb Connolly Automotive Group was this years sponsor of Fuller Middle School’s annual Turkey Trot. Fuller abuts the back of the Herb Connolly property. All the kids who participated got a T-Shirt with the turkey trot logo on the front and the Herb Connolly logo on the back.  The run was a 1 mile loop that the physical education teachers, Mr. Gill and Mrs. Columbo, created around the school.  This is an annual event that Fuller middle school has done for years.

The 6th graders went off at 8:25 am, the 7th graders at 9:08 and the 8th graders at 9:50.  There was also a school wide pep rally in the gymnasium at 10:30 before early dismissal for the Thanksgiving break at 11:25.  It’s always a fun day for the kids and a nice way to kick off the holidays! We have so much to be thankful for this year, and wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving from the Herb Connolly family to yours!

As part of Chevrolet’s partnership with the American Cancer Society, the brand is encouraging its dealers, employees, customers and fans to help save lives by participating in one of the hundreds of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks being held across the United States. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is more than just the name of the walk, it describes the progress we’re making together to end breast cancer. Nothing can describe the hope inspired by walking with hundreds or thousands or other who share a passion for ending this disease.

Throughout October, Chevrolet and General Motors will recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month from the top of GM’s World Headquarters at the Renaissance Cente in Detroit. The LED sign at the top of the building will feature a rotating pink ribbon and the LED bands on all the towers of the Renaissance Center will turn pink to help raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. A specially themed pink Camaro SS pace car ran in September’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Richmond International Raceway as well.

We had a successful first month in our temporary showroom and service department trailers last month in September.  Our people are some of the best in the business and they made the transition seamless and easy for our all of our customers!

I don’t want to tell you about all that is involved behind the scenes that goes into making a “live” construction site happen.  We all knew that it would take a lot of people pulling on the same rope, but one really can’t prepare for something like this until it really starts to happen.  But everyone has been great from our vendors, like All Seasons, who’ve helped us make sure our service department is working at full capacity, to our own employees to our construction people, it really is a team effort to build on a site that remains open for business.

This old showroom is finally being razed on or about the 15th of October.  After that we’ll really start to see things happen quickly.  The site will need to be prepared for cement and steel right after that.  By November we should see the forms ready and poured and getting ready for the new steel.

We will be moving some sewer access onsite next and also installing a new water filtration system into the ground to help clean rain water runoff from the new building.  It’s all crazy and exciting at the same time.

Remember when you bring your car in for service just drive right up to the “Valet” sign next to the service trailer and we’ll take it from there.  Our staff will get you into a new Acura loaner car within 15 minutes or back in your own car within an hour if you’re waiting for your car.

Since 1998, Hyundai and its dealers have been committed to supporting the fight against childhood cancer. What began in 1998 as a local initiative supported by New England-area Hyundai dealers to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has evolved into Hyundai Hope on Wheels, an independent 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that is now supported nationwide by Hyundai’s 800+ dealers and Hyundai Motor America. Since its inception, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has donated more than $23 million to children’s hospitals across the country to help kids fight cancer.

The symbol of the Hope on Wheels Tour is a white Hyundai Santa Fe vehicle covered with colorful handprints representing childhood cancer patients from all over the country. The Handprint Ceremonies celebrate the courage of these patients by capturing their colorful handprints on the white Santa Fe, with attending children placing their own handprints on the car to commemorate their battle with cancer.

In 2011,  Herb Connoly Hyundai and other Hyundai dealers continue their commitment to battling childhood cancer with the “Hyundai Gives Hope on Wheels” initiative during the month of September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Every time a new Hyundai vehicle is sold in the U.S., a donation is made to Hope on Wheels. Here at Herb Connolly Hyundai in Framingham, we are doubling our normal donation in honor of Childhood cancer month over the standard donation we do on every new Hyundai sold!! Our donations are matched by Hyundai, as their commitment to pediatric cancer research mirrors our own!

The Hope on Wheels Tour is the united effort of Hyundai dealers across the country to raise awareness about childhood cancer and celebrate the lives of the courageous children battling the disease, by visiting hospitals across the country. Today, Adam Connolly, president of Herb Connolly Automotive Group was at the Massachusetts General Hospital for the presentation of a check for $100,000 to the pediatric cancer unit from Hyundai and it’s dealers! $100,000 is also being given to Umass, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute! A total of $7.1 million is being donated by Hyundai this year alone!

Hyundai Motor America, leads the way for more than 30 corporate sponsors who contribute funds, goods, and services to the event! Since 2003, Hyundai has demonstrated strong corporate citizenship and commitment to philanthropy by serving as the Walk’s presenting sponsor. Hyundai has contributed nearly $2.8 million over the past eight years through sponsorships, fundraising, and dealer contributions to the Walk!

Herb Connolly Hyundai personally contributed $5,000 to the Jimmy Fund to support Team Hyundai! Every year approximately 12,000 children and teenagers are diagnosed with cancer.  The challenges that they and their families face are difficult and painful.  By supporting Hyundai’s Team in the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk, we have the opportunity to make a difference in these families’ lives and to make a difference in our communities by helping children fight cancer!

Dedicated walkers, ranging from children in strollers to great-grandparents, travel along the historic Boston Marathon® route with a unified purpose: to eradicate cancer!  Walkers choose from one of four route options designed for everyone from the marathon enthusiast to the youngest walker. There is also a virtual Walker option for those who can’t make it to the event. The Connolly family and Herb Connolly employees often participate in this walk, as it is a cause near and dear to them!
